چکیده
OBJECTIVE To define the clinical outcome in isolated antenatal hydronephrosis (ANH), defined as pelviectasis without vesicoureteral reflux or urinary tract obstruction. STUDY DESIGN AND PATIENTS We analyzed prospectively gathered data from patients with isolated ANH. Pelviectasis, graded using the anterior-posterior diameter reference criteria, was defined by the status of the more severely affected kidney. Urinary tract obstruction was ruled out by diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid scan when clinically indicated. Statistical differences were analyzed using the McNemar and chi 2 tests. RESULTS Isolated ANH was defined in 63 patients. The first postnatal ultrasonogram (mean +/- SD age, 18.4 +/- 17.8 days) revealed resolution of ANH in 16 (25%), mild pelviectasis in 34 (54%), and moderate or severe pelviectasis in 13 (21%). Ultrasonogram at the last follow-up visit (23.3 +/- 14.8 months) in 57 patients demonstrated normal pelvic diameter or mild pelviectasis in 47 (82%) (P =.002). In the 13 patients with moderate or severe neonatal pelviectasis, severity decreased in 11 (85%). Deterioration of any grade of pelviectasis occurred in only 3 (5%) of 57 patients. Renal growth, measured by renal length, was normal in all 57 patients. CONCLUSION Isolated ANH resolves or improves in most patients during the first 2 years of life.

Short Term Outcome of Antenatal Hydronephrosis: A Single Center Experience
Background Fetal hydronephrosis is a common urinary tract anomaly that may result in renal parenchyma damage. Ultrasound is considered a simple, noninvasive procedure to diagnose and track antenatal hydronephrosis. Our aim was to study the clinical course of fetal hydronephrosis in fetuses. OBJECTIVE To assess the postnatal outcome of fetuses with renal pelvis dilatation (RPD). METHODS A retrospective study was conducted to review 61 fetuses found to have RPD by ultrasound (US) carried out from January 2008 to January 2012 at the Security Forces Hospital in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Five ended with intra uterine fetal death or early neonatal death, and were excluded. Of t...
متن کاملAntenatal hydronephrosis as a predictor of postnatal outcome: a meta-analysis.
OBJECTIVE Antenatal hydronephrosis is diagnosed in 1% to 5% of all pregnancies; however, the antenatal and postnatal management of hydronephrosis varies widely. No previous studies define the risk of postnatal pathology in infants with antenatal hydronephrosis. Our objective was to review the current literature to determine whether the degree of antenatal hydronephrosis and related antenatal ul...

Objectives: To describe the maternal and fetal characteristics of isolated antenatal hydronephrosis (ANH), to address parental concerns by providing local data based on the fetal renal pelvis anteroposterior diameter (APD), and to determine the most effective APD cutoff in the second and third trimester for prediction of postnatal urological outcome. Methods: A retrospective review of all cases...

BACKGROUND To analyze the outcome of children with posterior urethral valves who presented with antenatal hydronephrosis. METHODS A 10-year retrospective review of records of 70 children with posterior urethral valves. RESULTS The mean (SD) gestational age at diagnosis was 34 (4.48) weeks, and age at intervention was 130.5 (170.9) days. The nadir creatinine was significantly raised (<1.2 mg...
